La distinzione tra dolore e sofferenza, evidente sul piano medico, sembra impossibile sul piano filosofico. Ma ciò accade solo se la filosofia viene concepita come il regno dell'imperturbabilità della ragione astrattiva e generalizzante. Inteso come frattura che permette al pensare e alla vita di palesarsi, segnando la distanza fra vita ed esistenza, il dolore impedisce che l'esistenza asfissi la vita. Del dolore, infatti, l'esistenza conosce solo la sua passività,, perciò tende all'indolenza, e cioè a negare che il dolore, elemento integrante della stessa sanità dell'essere umano, possa essere l'unico antidoto possibile perché il cuore non si assordi e la ragione conosca libertà.

This article seeks to understand how people in the early modern age interpreted the nature of illness and the role that morality played in these interpretations. From this point of view illnesses were not only psycho-physical states or subjects for medical diagnosis but they were also subjects for narratives or stories through which people tried to understand what had caused their illness, and why it was happening to them. Illnesses were understood as strictly connected with the patient's character and were regarded as possible consequences of his personality. The study aims at analyzing the psychosocial variables associated with the informal caregivers" burden of dependent older people. A sample of 296 dependent people and their informal caregivers (n= 153) was randomly selected among users and non-users of the Spanish public In-Home Help Service (HHS) in an autonomous Spanish region (Comunidad Valenciana). Diverse variables in reference to the care context and the caregiver as well as the care recipient show major associations with the burden: those associated to disease and the social situation of the dependent person, the greater frequency and intensity of care, and the low frequency in which the caregiver receives help from others. Il contributo esamina le principali questioni interpretative e applicative scaturenti dalla disciplina di cui all'art. 24 d.l. n. 18 del 2020, in tema di permessi aggiuntivi per l'assistenza ai disabili in condizione di handicap grave. The article analyses unpublished instructions written by a vice-prior of the Order of St. John in the late seventeenth century. They were directed at the conventual chaplains providing religious support to knights, soldiers and crew (including slave rowers) during the naval campaigns of the Order galleys, the so-called “caravane”. On one hand the work was inspired by literature on the “Christian soldier” (whose authors were often Jesuits), on the other it brought together the spiritual care issues directly experienced by the same chaplains on board.
